Throughout this past year, there has been a lot of discussion of heroics and heroes within the community. Healthcare workers and frontline workers have been thrust into impossible situations and asked to give everything of themselves to help manage the spread of a raging pandemic.

They are heroes.

Essential workers ensure that there is access to all of the things that we have grown accustomed to needing.

They are heroes.

But what about the organizations that are working tirelessly behind the scenes to try to ensure that people don’t fall through the cracks of society? Most charitable or non-profit organizations don’t do the work they do for recognition. Many of these organizations are volunteer run. They see the importance of bringing the community together during times of struggle. They understand that we need to work to create systemic changes and they give of themselves to exact change and support the communities that they love.

These volunteers are also heroes – and we don’t talk about this enough.
