On April 20th, many breathed a sigh of relief and collectively rejoiced when a former police officer was found guilty on all three charges after the murder of George
Floyd.
For many world leaders, the death of George Floyd and what came next was a wakeup call. A wake-up call that perhaps the roots of systemic racism run deeper than they thought. For Black communities around the world the tragedy was
one more instance highlighting our experiences. Every. Single. Day.
We will continue to march. We will continue to shout from the rooftops. We will continue to engage in meaningful dialogue. And we will continue to support our brothers and sisters who grow weary of the fight. Because while the world
rejoiced, we have a long way to go if we are seeking equity on a global scale.
The change starts with you. And it continues with our family, allies, and friends. In the face of tragedy, we also need to hold on to hope and faith that the work we are doing as a community will create
change.
We want to hear your stories of hope. Share your stories with us either by responding to this email or tagging us on social media! (Instagram: @supportblackcharities | Twitter: @supblkcharities)
Shelley Cares Foundation believes that no one should go to bed hungry. They provide a daily nutritional meal to homeless, unemployed, working poor families, senior citizens, the unemployed or under-employed, the mentally and
physically challenged, and, most important, the children.
After opening the doors in 2018, Shelley Cares has been providing safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to under-served communities in Scarborough, ON and the surrounding areas. There are two main programs supporting the
community. The Food Basket Program offers free monthly food basket deliveries for both single adults and families. The Shelley Cares Community Pantry provides a free supply of safe and nutritious food throughout the year. Residents in Scarborough and surrounding areas who need support can visit the pantry once per week to stock up on perishable and non-perishable food products.
Shelley Cares is working to reduce the stigma around food insecurity by providing comfortable and judgment-free support.
They are always looking for volunteer drivers and pantry sponsors to support the community.
