On Monday, communities across the United States and supporters across the world will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. He fought for civil rights – for equality among all humans. He also fought to end poverty – a social issue that is so tightly linked to our own communities even to this day.

While we will all celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and his monumental accomplishments before his life was cut short, it is important for us to realize that there are incredible organizations all over the world that are carrying out his legacy. These are organizations that have volunteers that work tirelessly to support local communities and communities abroad because they see the same things happening over and over. We have to remember that, while it can be frustrating to feel like it is a never ending fight, strong black leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. who have come before us as well as the new generation of leaders should serve as a source of inspiration every day to stand up for what you believe in.

Find a cause that resonates with you and get involved. Do it because it is the right thing to do. Do it because you want to make the world better for those in your communities. Do it because someone did it so you could have a better life. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words will ring true every day of the year, "The time is always right to do what is right."

On Monday, celebrate his accomplishments, but carry out his legacy every day.
