But if we work together on noble goals such as peace and harmony we can take our unifed impact further and further.

As we go about our daily lives, let us remember to show we care through action.

Help someone carry their groceries.

Share a meal with someone.

Simply, do the good and right things as much as you possibly can.

Simple examples of what we call #BlackPhilanthropyinAction.

The kind of action that will elevate our community and create the impact we want to see.

We want to see the Black community prosper and thrive sustainably.

Durham Region Association of Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs (DRABPE)

This October, in alignment with our Monthly focus on economic growth (SDG 8) and sustainable communities (SDG 11), we are featuring the Durham Region Association of Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs (DRABPE).

DRABPE founded in 2017 is led by Dane Lawrence and Silvan Murray with a mission to support and elevate Black entrepreneurs and professionals in the Durham region, located east of Toronto, Ontario.

The organization was created to fill a gap in local resources and provide networking opportunities, mentorship, and critical business support that Black business owners often had to seek outside the region. Through programs such as:

Financial Literacy Sessions designed to help Black small business owners manage and grow their businesses
Black Youth Career Launch providing Black youth with access to career paths in STEMM (Science, Technology, Data Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine)
Entrepreneurship Workshops & Networking Programs tailored to empower Black professionals through community-building (Every Friday - 1st Fridays Durham)
TD Bank Partnership to expand financial education and business resources

DRABPE is making a meaningful impact on the economic landscape of Durham by fostering a supportive environment where Black professionals and entrepreneurs can thrive. With the rapid growth of the Black population and the increasing number of Black-owned businesses in the region, DRABPE’s efforts are vital.

Their youth programs have seen heightened participation, while their work with small business owners equips them to overcome entrepreneurial challenges and succeed in an increasingly competitive market.

Through initiatives like financial literacy sessions and mentorship, DRABPE ensures these businesses have the support they need to flourish.

Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI)

The Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) - a pathway driving empowerment to Black-led organizations worldwide.

Our ongoing work with the Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) continues!

During October, we are focusing efforts on SDG #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth 🏗 and SDG# 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities 🌇.

It is so important to contribute to the economic growth within Black communities worldwide. It is our time. It is our turn to build a lasting legacy for years to come. It starts by lifting each other up and supporting initiatives that elevate Black communities.

Our ongoing efforts have raised $2,370 Canadian dollars to support the nonprofits listed on SBC's Online Directory of vetted organizations since the launch in August 2023.

This October, let’s continue to build on that success by raising funds for organizations that are creating lasting change.

Get to know the organizations listed on the SBC directory under SDG #8 and SDG #11. Here are 3 ideas on how you can get yourself involved:

Title: L’Oréal Fund for Women

Funder/Donor/Grantmaker: L’Oréal Group

Grant type/amount: €5,000 and under €300,000 (or multi-year support only)

Eligible projects: Projects supporting highly vulnerable women and girls, focusing on three areas: supporting refugees and displaced women, inclusive education, and efforts to combat domestic violence.

Title: National Anti-Racism Fund (NARF) Project Grants
