Dear SBC Family,

As we close out 2024 and embark on our 6th year of service to the Black community, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude. 

What began as a passion project at the end of 2018—a small idea to make a difference—has blossomed into a life of service dedicated to elevating Black voices, empowering nonprofits, and celebrating the transformative power of philanthropy.

This year was one of growth, impact, and firsts for SBC filled with milestones that tell a powerful story:

• SBC Directory: In 2024, we welcomed 16 new vetted organizations, bringing our total to 151 across 20 countries. By joining the SBC Directory, these organizations gain greater visibility, access to a targeted audience, and opportunities for collaboration, helping them expand their reach and boost their online presence.

• SBC Business Development Assessment for Nonprofits (BDA): 30% of organizations that completed the Assessment acted on customized recommendations, hiring SBC to strengthen Governance or develop Earned Income Streams—two of our most sought-after services. We are proud to support their growth as they unlock their potential while amplifying their impact.

These numbers represent more than statistics—they tell the story of collaboration, commitment, dedication, and shared purpose. 

Together, we are forging connections of support and paving the way for generational impact.

⭐SBC Highlights of 2024: Celebrating a Year of Impact⭐

Wakanda Black History Month Event (February)

One of the largest Black History Month events in Toronto, this elegant evening celebrated Black culture and unity. With moving speeches from leaders like Ryan O’Neil Knight and Stachen Lett-Frederick, and entertainment from artists like Randy from VX3 Exchange, the event was a testament to the power of collaboration. 

Special thanks to sponsors like Jide Adeoye from GoEasy, who not only supported the event but also participated actively in inspiring the community.

goeasy, ADE, OVOT & SBC Partnership

Impactful Collaboration: Through SBC’s directory, goeasy’s ADE (Afro-Canadian Development and Empowerment (ADE) ERG (Employee Resource Group) partnered with OVOT (One Voice One Team) to sponsor five children for a transformative summer camp.

Mentorship in Action: ADE representatives visited the camp, sharing their inspiring journey with the children and emphasizing the value of mentorship and corporate responsibility.

Success Story: This partnership showcased SBC’s unique role as a bridge between corporations and Black-led nonprofits, amplifying community impact and creating lasting generational change.

Black Philanthropy & Black Business Month (August 2024)

The Blocko: Hosted at Evergreen Brick Works, this lively celebration brought the Black community together with a vibrant marketplace, live music, and charitable initiatives like the Back-to-School Drive by Fray Family Foundation.

It was a day of unity and empowerment, showcasing the strength of Black-owned businesses, nonprofits, and families.

The Mastermind – "How to Think Like a Business for Nonprofits": A transformative workshop featuring prominent leaders like Sherri Sanjurjo (Business Development Director at One Voice One Team and CEO of Dymond Enterprise), Stachen Lett-Frederick (Founder of Braids for AIDS and Executive Director of Frontlines TO), Ryan O’Neil Knight (Co-founder of Afro Caribbean Business Network and creator of Knighthood Academy), and Aisha Francis (Director of Development and Communication at the Centre for Young Black Professionals and Founder of Project: Restore FIBI). Attendees gained insights into strategic growth for nonprofits and fostered meaningful connections during an exclusive networking session.

With the Holiday Season in full swing, it’s a time for joy, celebration, and reflection. It’s also the time when many of us think about those who have less, including the countless individuals and families struggling with food insecurity. For Black communities, this isn’t just a seasonal issue—it’s a systemic crisis that requires immediate and sustained action.

This Holiday Season, let’s turn awareness into action. 🌟 Together, we can fight hunger and food insecurity by supporting Black-led nonprofits working tirelessly to address these challenges.

Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI)

The Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) - a pathway driving empowerment to Black-led organizations worldwide. 

Our ongoing work with the Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) continues! 

During December, we are focusing efforts on SDG#16:Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions and SDG#17:Partnership for the Goals.

SDG#16 emphasizes the need for equitable access to justice, accountable institutions, and inclusive societies. By addressing systemic inequities and fostering fairness, we build stronger foundations for lasting peace and social stability.

SDG#17 focuses on collaboration—because no one can tackle global challenges alone. Partnerships between governments, nonprofits, businesses, and individuals amplify impact, ensuring resources and efforts reach those who need them most.

Supporting these goals means investing in a future where justice prevails, institutions serve all, and partnerships drive meaningful progress. Together, we can create a more equitable and resilient world..

Our ongoing efforts have raised $2,370 Canadian dollars to support the nonprofits listed on SBC's Online Directory of vetted organizations since the launch in August 2023. 

This December, let’s build on that success by raising funds for organizations that are creating lasting change.
