Giving Tuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement, uniting people around the globe in a shared mission to make a difference. Over 3.25 billion in funds was raised in 2023.

The strength of collective philanthropy lies in our ability to address complex challenges in unison, driving change that’s sustainable and inclusive.

With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, we invite you to join us and make a meaningful impact within our community. There are local Giving Tuesday programs across the world, including:

REST Centres - Empowering Youth and Ending Homelessness

Restoration and Empowerment for Social Transition (REST) Centres is a Black-led charitable organization dedicated to ending youth homelessness in the Peel Region (Ontario), Canada. With a mission to empower BIPOC youth facing housing insecurity, REST Centres provides a holistic support model encompassing transitional housing, financial assistance, and essential services to foster stability and self-sufficiency.

REST Centres’ holistic model—Shelter, Living, Healing, and Growing—addresses youth homelessness by providing more than just housing. Shelter offers stable housing as a foundation, while Living ensures access to essentials like food. Healing focuses on mental and emotional support, and Growing empowers youth with skills in financial literacy, employment, and mentorship. Together, these pillars create a path for vulnerable youth to rebuild and thrive.

Through flagship programs like the Bridge of Hope, they connects at-risk youth with landlords, providing vital rental subsidies, landlord engagement, and wrap-around support to stabilize their housing situation. They also offer the Bare Necessities Program, delivering food, personal care, and starter packs.

Among REST’s impactful initiatives is the LIFEE Program (Learning Initiatives Fostering Economic Empowerment), which equips young people with essential employment and entrepreneurship skills, such as job application tips, mentorship, and work placements. This comprehensive support prepares youth for independent living while fostering career growth and economic empowerment.

REST Centres stands as a vital community resource and advocate, providing solutions and contributing to policy discussions on homelessness, as recently demonstrated by Executive Director Dagma Koyi’s participation at the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Conference.

The Marriage Advocates

Addressing immigrant family stress, preventing domestic violence, preventing family disruption & divorce, and promoting healthy relationships. Providing workshops, mentorship, and relationship coaching to immigrant families and uses arts to educate the immigrant community about cultural differences.

Tar Syndrome Awareness

Medical treatment in the black community has always been put on the back burner, but people of color who also have disabilities have been pushed even further back, and our organization is trying to bring TAR Syndrome to the forefront.

Black Aviation Professional Network (BAPN)

Hire, inspire, retain, and develop diverse talent in Aviation. Participate in workshops and hear from industry leaders, provide cutting-edge opportunities to extend your career runway and inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.

Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI)

The Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) - a pathway driving empowerment to Black-led organizations worldwide. 

Our ongoing work with the Global Black Philanthropy Initiative (GBPI) continues! 

During November, we are focusing efforts on SDG#2: Zero Hunger 🥗 

It is so important to contribute to the economic growth within Black communities worldwide. It is our time. It is our turn to build a lasting legacy for years to come. It starts by lifting each other up and supporting initiatives that elevate Black communities.

Our ongoing efforts have raised $2,370 Canadian dollars to support the nonprofits listed on SBC's Online Directory of vetted organizations since the launch in August 2023. 

This November, let’s build on that success by raising funds for organizations that are creating lasting change.

Your support is crucial to our mission.

Title: Community Impact Program

Funder/Donor/Grantmaker: Government of Canada, administered by Shoot for Peace

Grant type/amount: Up to $5,000

Eligible projects: Youth and youth-led groups (ages 16-30) within the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area focusing on community healing, arts programming, inclusive events, skills development, and increased access to personal development. Eligible expenses include volunteer honoraria, space rental, project supplies, equipment rental, and promotion. Priority given to projects engaging vulnerable and racialized youth.

Title: Funding to Establish the National Autism Network

Funder/Donor/Grantmaker: Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)

Grant type/amount: $6.5 million over 5 years

Eligible projects: Canadian not-for-profit voluntary organizations with experience in autism advocacy and community support, who can lead the National Autism Network. The network will prioritize community representation, including Autistic individuals, and address key autism priorities like screening, economic inclusion, public awareness, and resource sharing.

Title: Voices from the Frontline

Funder/Donor/Grantmaker: Rosa (UK Women’s Fund)

Grant type/amount: £500 - £10,000 over 18 months

Eligible projects: Women’s and girls’ organizations in the UK led by women and addressing social issues through campaigns and activism. Eligible activities include policy change campaigns, community-based activism, lobbying, media projects, and training in advocacy. Applicants must submit both an online application form and a video.

Title: Women in Peacebuilding Program
