We just celebrated International Women’s Day on March
8th, but March is actually Women’s History Month! The theme for this year’s IWD is #BreakTheBias. It’s all about breaking down barriers to gender equality – no bias, stereotypes, or discrimination should ever hold anyone back.
At SBC we work with so many amazing organizations that are run and/or founded by incredible Black woman non-profit leaders. We would like to acknowledge their continued impact within our communities and encourage everyone to support their work
in any way possible.
Look these women up, look up their organizations, take in the work they are doing and have done because it truly has a profound impact on the future of our world.
Who are some Black women in philanthropy you admire? We would love to hear about them. Share your stories with us either by responding to this email or tagging us on social media! (Instagram: @supportblackcharities | Twitter: @supblkcharities)
Founded in 2005, One Voice One Team (OVOT) has been working to empower at-risk youth to succeed in life. OVOT programming focuses on youth leadership, community service, and improving the lives of youth and the
communities they live in. Since launching, OVOT has worked with over 700 schools and engaged over 300,000 youth.
OVOT programs are developed to easily integrate into school curriculum and daily school scheduling. There are youth programs, youth summer camps, school assemblies, teachers’ workshops, and customized workshops for specific needs. For a full list of their
programming, visit their website.
OVOT recently launched their new online drop-in program called Let’s Talk It Out. The program, designed for youth ages 14 - 25 to have a brave space to connect with other young people, allows youth to
feel seen and heard. They can speak openly and gain new perspectives on life. Overall OVOT is creating a positive experience for youth to grow and connect with those around them.
Under the direction of Executive Director Orlando Bowen, a former CFL athlete and activist, they have some exciting things coming for 2022, but they are also always looking for funding to support their incredible programs and help in spreading the word about the organization and the programs that they have
available.
